Sir John Gay was known to be a respected leader and businessman who worked vigorously for the prosperity for the island of Barbados. The story starts when, Sir John Gay assisted a friend who had inherited an unknown distillery. He helped manage it and learnt quickly how to make rum. It was Sir John Gay that refined the process of distillation to produce a much refined and finer product that we know today as, Mount Gay.

The unique type of rum, Mount Gay Rum is the result of 310 years of knowledge, experiment and refinement. Each flavour in the rum profiles are made with natural ingredients from Barbados.

Now, experts say that the Mount Gay is the one rum that started the trend of "The Old Fashioned". In 1770, Colonial US was very fond of rum importing millions of gallons of run from places like Barbados.
