Despite its name, this is a cocktail that has its feet firmly on the ground as one of the gin cocktail classics. Containing only four ingredients: gin, lemon juice, maraschino liqueur and creme de Violette, it is this final ingredient that gives a subtle, pale sky-blue hue and inspired the cocktail’s name.

15ml Maraschino liqueur

Steps

Fill a cocktail shaker with ice, add all ingredients and shake. Strain the liquid into a chilled glass, then twist some lemon zest over the surface of the cocktail to release the essential oils onto the drink, then discard the zest.
Garnish with a Maraschino cherry and you're up and away.
