The foundation of Clicquot was set back in 1772. Philippe Clicquot used to own vineyards and decied to start a champagne house. With a vision for his brand to cross oceans and borders, he made his first shipment of champagne to Venice. Business was going great. In 1805, Barbe Clicquot Ponsardin, known as Madame Clicquot (the 27 year old widow of the founder's son), thus becoming one of the first businesswomen of modern times. Madame Clicquot took her abilities and innovativeness to a new level by creating the first vintage champagne in 1810. Over the years, she brought about new inventions, implemented new techniques thus bringing about important discoveries. The prestigious, Veuve Clicquot La Grande Dame was created to mark the House's 200th Anniversary. This is made from the harvest of grapes that took place from 23rd September to 13th October, which are beautiful ripened grapes, grown in fine weather conditions. The La Grande Dame 2004 is an exclusive blend of eight traditional vines. It displays a pale gold colour with notes of fresh fruits and stone fruits, and discreet hints of brioche. The distinct taste portrays freshness with a remarkable intensity.
